Setting the Standard

By setting the standard for professional and ethical competency for medical sales representatives, MRCC seeks to improve patient outcomes and protect the public. To read and/or print a copy of the competency standard for biopharmaceutical representatives, please click here.

MRCC® followed a standardized process to create certification examinations that are psychometrically valid and legally defensible. After exam delivery, an ongoing process of analysis and improvement will ensure ongoing validity of the programs. With the help of development and delivery expertise through Castle Worldwide, MRCC is ensuring that all processes, policies and procedures will gain Accreditation by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) in 2012.

Multiple teams of stakeholders participated in the standards creation process, establishing the minimum competency levels for performance and knowledge for medical representatives who call on healthcare professionals for the purpose of providing education and promoting their products. This process culminated with the publication of the Job Analysis Study and the resulting National Standards.

Examinations are created from the Standards following this process:

  1. Role Delineation (Job Analysis)
  2. Development of Test Blueprint
  3. Item Development & Validation
  4. Test Assembly
  5. Review & Revision
  6. Content Valid Examination
  7. Passing Point
  8. Test Administration
  9. Psychometric Analysis
